In Hyde Park, a department pickup truck was transporting Mayor Michelle Wu when an SUV, traveling fast, crashed into it around 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, according to a Boston Police Department report.
The department truck was driving down Blakemore Street, with lights and sirens activated, and attempted to turn left on Hyde Park Avenue on a red light, the report said.
The first lane of traffic observed the SUV's lights and sirens and came to a complete stop. The officer driving the truck crossed the first lane of traffic and was in the process of crossing the second lane when a Honda CR-V collided into the driver's side of the vehicle.
The truck carrying the mayor was "unable to avoid the collision" due to the SUV's "fast approach."
The SUV did not stop or slow down for the sirens and lights, the police report said.
A passenger "who is known to the Commonwealth," ostensibly Mayor Wu, said she felt a minor pain in her right side, but declined medical treatment at the scene.
A young child was riding in the back of the SUV. The driver declined medical treatment for themselves and their child.
The officer driving the department truck felt pains in the left side of their body and was taken in an ambulance to the hospital and discharged the same day.
No one sustained major injuries in the crash, Wu's press office said.
Both vehicles had visible damage and were towed away from the scene.
The incident is under investigation, as per regulations for all crashes involving departmental motor vehicles.
